The Dog & Duck
The Dog and Duck is one of a number of Soho pubs whose names refer back to days when the whole of the area was a royal hunting ground. Indeed, the word "Soho" is derived by the royal hunting call "So-ho". Originally built in 1734, the pub was demolished and replaced by the present building in 1897 and is thought to have one of the most exquisite interiors of the Victorian period. Many famous patrons have been found here, including George Orwell and, more recently, Madonna. And so have many famous ales.
