The Marquis of Granby W1

John Manners, Marquis of Granby (1724-70) commanded great affection as a military leader during the Seven Years War. After the conflict, he presented many of his non-commisioned officers with a bounty paid from his own pocket and many used it to set themselves up as publicans. They duly expressed their gratitude on their inn signs. During the 1930s, the pub was host to dealers, bookmakers, showgirls, street girls and even small time gangsters. Dylan Thomas also returned here again and again. Just like real ale fans do today.
